Chairman of the BoardAllan Visser is President of Visco Holdings Limited. Visco Holdings is active as a principal and project manager in the development and operation of residential and commercial real estate. The company has developed residential subdivisions and commercial buildings in the Niagara Region and Central Florida and manages several commercial and residential properties in Niagara.
Mr. Visser’s training as a chartered accountant and his experience as executive vice president of a multi-divisional real estate development and investment company has equipped hi for his role as an entrepreneur.
Mr. Visser has served and led many not-for-profit and charitable boards and committees including the Niagara YMCA, St Catharines Golf and Country Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chartered Accountants Association and the Port Dalhousie Business Association. He has recently completed a six-year term as Board Director of Vineland Research and Innovation Centre serving as Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee for five years. He is currently serving as a director of Platform Genetics. a subsidiary of Vineland Research and Innovation Center.
Mr. Visser has been active in many roles in his church including serving as an Elder, Chairing the Finance Team and leading the Building and Fundraising teams. Mr. Visser places significant value on caring for Seniors. He has been involved with Martindale Place from its inception in the 1980’s and has served as chairman of the board for the past 10 years.
John Schonewille
Vice ChairJohn is a life-long member of First Reformed Church. It was here that he first became aware of plans to start a Seniors ministry on surplus church lands to the west and north of the current church building. As a result, he has been directly involved with Martindale Place since the early stages of the initial buildings.
John recently completed a career of over 35 years in the Municipal Building industry employed as a Building Official where he provided regulatory oversight to various residential, institutional, commercial and industrial buildings. Through these years he has been a member of various professional associations including several provincial groups where he served various roles as a member working towards position of President. John has volunteered his time to his local community serving as a member of local land planning and use committee for three terms of a municipal Council. He is an active member in the Jordan Lions Club which continues to the address the needs of the local community through service projects.
A member of the Martindale Place Board of Directors since 2009, John continues to serve and enjoys being involved in the needs of the seniors through the ministry established and growing at Martindale Place.
Lorne Bayne
TreasurerLorne was born in St. Catharines and raised in a family of six in Thorold, attending First Baptist Church. He is married to Lia and has been blessed with three children and nine grandchildren. He is currently a member of Heritage Reformed Church in Jordan.
He continued his education at Niagara College and worked in the Financial Industry until his retirement in 2018. He spent 22 years with the Bank of Montreal as their Senior Personal Credit Manager. Subsequently he worked as a Financial Consultant with Investors Group.
He has served on a number of Boards including the Board of Jordan Christian School as their treasurer for many years. He also served as Treasurer with the Consistory of Heritage Reformed Congregation, including fund raising for their new sanctuary.
He has always been committed to the vision of Martindale Place and has loved serving on their Board since the early 2000’s.
Alfred Dick
DirectorAlfred Dyck is President of All Green Irrigation, St Davids Cold Storage Limited and Alfco Holdings Inc.
All Green Irrigation has been Mr. Dyck’s main operating business since 1985, each year serving thousands of residential and commercial clients with their Irrigation and landscape lighting needs. With a staff of 20 supporting him, the company continues to grow each year.
St Davids Cold Storage was started by Mr. Dyck in 2008 from the need to find a tenant for a vacant building he and his partners owned and were trying to rent. After improvements and expansions, it currently is supporting over 200 manufacturing, agricultural and beverage customers throughout Canada and the US. He has put a growing team in place while gaining HAACP certification and introducing cloud-based Inventory systems to support his customers. Alfco Holdings Inc In partnership with other companies has developed land holdings, built numerous residential and commercial buildings in the Niagara area for the last 20 years.
In 2018 the NOTL Chamber awarded Mr. Dyck the “Christopher Newton Award for Extraordinary Vision in Business ” for his past accomplishments.
Mr. Dyck has been a member First Reformed Church since 1991 serving as a Deacon and on the Board of Directors.
In the community Mr. Dyck has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Virgil Business Association as well as being Chairman for the last 5 years of the NOTL Classic Golf Tournament, raising over $25k each year for various community recreation projects.
Mr. Dyck has served on the Board of Martindale for the last 6 years, giving back his knowledge and sharing his personal and business experiences to better this community of senior residents.
Jerry Moes
DirectorJerry Moes is president of Rice Road Greenhouse and Garden Center. Jerry along with his brother and parents also owned and ran Broadway Gardens Limited in St Catharines.
He has been involved with overseeing all aspects of these businesses since 1983.
Jerry just completed 7 years of being a board member of Marine Terrace Condo Association. This has given Jerry insight as to how a community with a building functions.
Jerry has been an active consistory member and Chairman of the Board at First Reformed Church for multiple terms. Presently he is involved with the seniors ministry at First Reformed Church.
Susan Dubois-Cousineau
DirectorSusan Dubois-Cousineau, is an accomplished Business Leader specializing in cultivating Customer Loyalty through Operational Excellence.
Susan's career spans some of the most successful Fortune 500 companies in North America, providing her with hands on experience and expertise understanding the value of Customer Loyalty. Her career started with Eddie Bauer where she quickly learned the importance of quality and exceptional service in building customer loyalty. Susan's next career move was to Avis Leasing which was acquired by G.E. Capital Canada where innovation, leading edge technology and flexibility was challenging but a significant differentiator. From there she moved to AT&T Capital Canada as Director, Operations & Information Technology to embrace the culture of "out of the box thinking", effective collaboration, journey mapping, process redesign and the power of employee engagement. Susan career expanded further as she joined MCAP Leasing as V.P. Operations & Information Technology with a mandate to focus on building a Customer Centric Culture through people, processes and technology. In time, MCAP Leasing was acquired by RBC and rebranded RCAP Leasing. As a key member of the acquisition team, Susan's role was to support the transition and seamless integration of RBC Leasing portfolio and systems.
To expand her passion for people and helping them overcome roadblocks in their lives, Susan became a Certified Life Coach through iNLP Center International (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), accredited by ICF (International Coaching Federation), in 2020.
Susan also had the pleasure of sharing her business experience by volunteering at Huruma Children’s Home in Kenya for one year to equip them with the necessary tools and techniques to strengthen their foundation and create a collaborative culture within the Home and School. Susan has been been back four times to help them continue to move forward in a positive direction.
Susan's passion and focus throughout her career has been successfully building collaborative and dynamic teams, fostering a customer centric culture, streamlining operations, and effectively managing capital and operating budgets. Her mantra is "always strive to create a great workplace for great people to do great work"!
Joanne Bakker
DirectorJoanne Bakker was born, raised, and currently lives in St Catharines. Her entire career was spent in the field of education. After achieving her undergraduate degree and teaching credentials at Dordt University, she began as a high school teacher at Beacon Christian High School. She continued her graduate studies at the University at Buffalo where she also managed its writing centre and consulted on a number of projects and research initiatives.
Eventually she returned to Christian education and became the principal at Heritage Christian School in Jordan. From there she worked at the local public school board in the field of special education and literacy. Finally, she landed at Niagara College for the final half of her professional career where she served in a variety of roles.
She began as a faculty member, working with students who met with barriers, assisting them with finding strategies to experience success. Soon after she was asked to take on leadership roles within the college, serving on many college and provincial committees.
This led to further roles in academic management as an Associate Dean where she led many curricular and administrative changes to the college. She served as Interim Director of Student Services and eventually managed a portfolio responsible for many of the non-traditional educational programs, federal and provincial contracts as well as private international contracts. She has managed teams of over 100 members.
Currently Joanne has retired from her work at Niagara College; however, she spends her time serving many in her family and community. She is a member of Faith Reformed Church.
