Life Enrichment Aide
This position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet specific requirements as outlined by the program.

Job purpose

The Life Enrichment Student will work with all residents to enhance their quality of life while living at Martindale Place. They will assist the Life Enrichment Coordinator by conducting dynamic and meaningful recreational opportunities and experiences to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of all the residents

Duties and responsibilities

· Assist with developing and delivering daily meaningful programs for the residents at Martindale Place.

· Relationship development with all residents on the Martindale Place Campus.

· Assist the Wellness Coordinator and Life Enrichment Coordinator in supporting residents.

Qualifications

· College Diploma/Certification – Preference will be provided for those who are in process or have completed a therapeutic recreation or social work program.

· Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors

· Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance

· Customer-oriented and friendly

· Possesses excellent time management and organizational skills

· Familiarity with dementia friendly strategies is a plus

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 2 months

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 37.5 per week

Landscape – Grounds Maintenance technician
This position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet specific requirements as outlined by the program.

The Landscaping – Grounds Maintenance technician is a motivated individual who loves to serve seniors and finds great satisfaction in keeping our grounds in pristine condition.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain garden beds by recommending new and replacing plants that are not thriving
  • Pruning and trimming of shrubs/plants
  • Keeping garden beds weed free
  • Repairing lawns
  • Operate various pieces of equipment, including, but not limited to four-wheeler, push mowers, leaf blowers, trimmers, wheelbarrow, etc.
  • Ensure that parking lots, sidewalks and curbs are clean and free of debris.
  • Attend training and safety meetings

Qualifications

  • College Diploma/Certification – Preference will be provided for those who are in process or have completed College Certification in a Landscape or Horticulture program.
  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors
  • Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance
  • Customer-oriented and friendly
  • Possesses excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Working quickly without compromising quality
  • Awareness of safe environmental practices
  • Able to cope with the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the job

Working conditions

  • Full Time – 35 hours per week
  • Mostly Outdoors
  • Occasionally working in confined spaces and at heights

Physical requirements

  • Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Some sitting
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
  • Requires climbing and balancing.
  • Subject to working in and around dust, fumes, and odors.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Line Cook

Line Cook (PT, Permanent)

Overview:

The Line Cook is accountable to the Head Chef and Sous Chef and assists with all aspects of the dining experience for the residents of Martindale Place, striving to regularly exceed the expectations of the residents and supporting the Head Chef with the daily operations of the kitchen.

Major Responsibilities:

· Prepare high quality food that regularly exceeds expectations;

· Contribute to a high level of customer service in all aspects of the residents dining experience;

· Support the Head Chef and kitchen team by performing bulk prep duties;

· Accommodate residents who may have health related restrictions;

· Strive to prepare food with attention to detail;

· Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment;

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors;
  • Degree or diploma from a culinary program preferred;
  • One year of culinary experience preferred;
  • Strong attention to detail and quality;
  • Food handlers permit;

Current (within 6 months) original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screen
