In the late 1980’s 60 Plus purchased a 5-acre parcel adjacent to First Reformed Church on Vansickle Road. Some years later an additional parcel was purchased on the other side of the church property. 60 Plus created a master plan for a senior’s retirement community that would provide a variety of housing opportunities and a continuum of care for seniors. The completed community would house approximately 250 residents. Zoning approvals were obtained to allow the project to proceed.
In 1990 the first Phase of 47 apartments was completed and called Martindale Place. The units were marketed on a life lease basis. Several years’ later 8 patio homes were added as Phase II. Phase III consists of 21 patio homes and Phase IV was completed in 2001 and consists of 42 apartments. Phase 5 was completed in 2018 and consists of 70 independent living rental apartments with enhanced services.
In late 2016, the Board of Directors approved the renaming of the Phases for easier identification
- Phase 1 & 4 (Two connected apartment buildings) will be known as Martindale Suites (Entrance B & C)
- Phase 2 (Patio Homes 1-8) will be Martindale Gardens
- Phase 3 (Patio Homes 401-421) are Martindale Village
- Phase 5 is the Martindale Commons
