Bookkeeper/Payroll Clerk

Overview:

The Bookkeeper/Payroll Clerk is responsible for conducting all day to day financial functions of Martindale Place including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and benefits administration.  The Bookkeeper/Payroll Clerk also acts as the primary resource for timely, accurate financial information for residents, families, employee’s and vendors.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts
  • Post journal entries and reconcile accounts
  • Prepare trial balance of books
  • Maintain general ledgers
  • Prepare financial statements
  • Maintain records of employee attendance, leave and overtime to calculate pay and benefit entitlements
  • Prepare and verify statements of earnings for employees
  • Complete, verify and process forms and documentation for administration of benefits.
  • Provide information to employees on payroll matters and benefit plans
  • Relationship development with current and new residents
  • Responds in a timely manner to the requests and queries of our residents and their families

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with business finances
  • Experience with Payroll and benefit administration
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and Sage 50 (Simply Accounting)
  • Diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping or Payroll is beneficial
  • Ability to set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details/data/information/activities.
  • Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
  • Current (within 6 months) original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screen

Life Enrichment Coordinator

Full Time Salaried

Overview:

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for the overall implementation of activities and programs by developing and conducting dynamic and meaningful recreational opportunities and experiences to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of all the residents at Martindale Place.  The Life Enrichment coordinator is also responsible for the development and maintenance of the volunteer program. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, organize and implement daily meaningful programs for the residents at Martindale Place.
  • Maintain effective communication and relations with residents, families, volunteers and staff of other departments, keeping them informed of current and upcoming events
  • Facilitating residents getting to scheduled and pre-arranged outings and appointments
  • With the Bus Driver, coordinate all aspects of social outings (bookings, sign ups, facilitation of actual trip)
  • Develop a sustainable volunteer program, including recruiting, screening, supervising, training and recognizing volunteers
  • Promote the volunteer program to gain community support of the organization
  • Work with the local churches to promote the volunteer opportunities to the church members
  • Develop and implement an intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers
  • Participate as a part of the leadership team.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors
  • Graduate of a College or University program relating to Recreation and Leisure, Recreation Therapy or Gerontology.
  • 1-3 years related experience facilitating programs with seniors.
  • Familiarity with dementia friendly strategies is a bonus (i.e. Dementiability training)
  • Understanding of the aging process and how it relates to programming
  • Effective communication and the ability to interact with residents and families.
  • Ability to plan, organize and deliver diverse social services and volunteer programs.
  • Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.

Wellness Coordinator

The Wellness Coordinator will work with all residents to enhance their quality of life while living at Martindale Place.  They will help residents and their families navigate the local health care system to find resources and supports that will help the resident live independently for as long as possible. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate a supportive relationship with residents and families
  • Help residents achieve wellness and autonomy
  • Assist residents and their families in navigating the local health care environment
  • Create, retain and grow a portfolio of strategic networking partnerships with the local healthcare community and within the community at large
  • Relationship development with current and new residents

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors
  • Familiarity with the local health care system and agencies
  • Experience in social work practices beneficial
  • Experience working with seniors
  • Working experience in case management and knowledge of case management principles a benefit.
  • Degree or Diploma in social work, psychology or other social/health related discipline preferred.

Housekeeper

We are looking for a professional Housekeeper able of attending to our facilities with integrity and attention to detail.  The goal is to create a clean and orderly environment for our residents and guests that they are proud to call home.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Perform a variety of cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing
  • Ensure all rooms are cared for and inspected according to standards
  • Protect equipment and make sure there are no inadequacies
  • Notify superiors on any damages, deficits and disturbances
  • Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience
  • Check stocking levels of all consumables and replace when appropriate
  • Adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety and be aware of any company-related practices

Night Porter

Part Time, Hourly - Nights

Overview:

The Night Porter will perform general maintenance and cleaning services for the buildings and grounds, supporting the Environmental Services department.  You will interact and support residents and ensure they have everything they need. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Provide cleaning services to ensure business offices, apartments, interior and exterior public and common areas are in a safe, neat, clean and attractive condition.
  • Provide floor care services for all floor surfaces.
  • Perform basic maintenance related work requests as assigned
  • Respond to resident pull cords or pendent calls
  • Maintain all grounds in a neat, clean and attractive condition; including sidewalks, public walkways and stairways, building exteriors and garden areas.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a cleaner or housekeeper
  • Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance
  • Able to work various schedules and shifts as needed, including evenings and overnight.
  • Able to safely use basic maintenance and housekeeping machines and tools
  • Communicate effectively in English with employees and residents
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of service delivery; does what is necessary to ensure resident satisfaction; able to deal with service failures and prioritize resident needs.

  • Promote a high level of customer service in all aspects of the residents dining experience;
  • Provide creative ways to make mealtimes unique and memorable;
  • Strive to surprise and delight our residents with their favourite meals;
  • Accommodate residents who may have health related restrictions;
  • Strive to prepare food with attention to detail maintaining a clean and healthy environment for staff and residents alike;

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma from a culinary program preferred;

  • Promote and Execute Hospitality Services that regularly exceeds expectations;
  • Promote a high level of customer service in all aspects of the residents dining experience;
  • Provide creative ways to make mealtimes unique and memorable;
  • Strive to surprise and delight our residents
  • Consult with chef/sous chef regularly for continued food and service improvements;
  • Accommodate residents who may have health related restrictions;
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and quality.
  • Ensure tables are ready for residents and guests to arrive
  • Be aware of special requests, inclusive of dietary restrictions, allergies and food intolerances.

Driver

Part Time

Overview:

Responsible for providing safe, courteous transportation service and serve as support staff for the Engage Life Director. Coordinates vehicle pre-maintenance, maintenance, and repair to ensure vehicle longevity.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Drive vehicle from Martindale Place to social and other various destinations according to assigned schedule.
  • Assist residents into and out of vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Secure passengers’ wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  • Practice safe driving techniques at all times.
  • Clean and service vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories and report and coordinate vehicle maintenance repairs.
  • Establish and monitor daily and weekly trip inspection and preventative maintenance programs, as well as maintain records regarding the maintenance of all vehicles.
  • Deliver groceries and other belongings to resident’s apartments.
  • Assist the Life Enrichment Coordinator in activities and programs as needed.
  • Maintain a safe driving record according to Company guidelines.
  • Handle emergency situations and basic First Aid.

 

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors;
  • Five (5) or more years of driving experience and knowledge of vehicle preventative maintenance programs.
  • Able to operate a seven (7) to sixteen (16) passenger vehicle, tire changing equipment, First Aid Kit, wheelchair lift.
  • Experienced with vehicle emergency repairs, able to change automobile tires and handle minor on-road maintenance.
  • Proof of valid G class driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract
  • Completion of a vulnerable sector screening 1 year or less
  • Experience working with seniors
  • Good physical condition to support client’s mobility and lift up to 20 lbs
