Environmental Services Coordinator (Full Time, Permanent)

Martindale Place is a unique Senior’s Community where Christian values are lived and excellent housing is provided. Overview:

The Environmental Services Coordinator is an individual who enjoys keeping a property to high standards for buildings and grounds maintenance.  Most of your day to day work is hands on maintenance work.  You are also responsible for direct oversight of the maintenance workers and the housekeeping staff.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with residents and guests to determine individual needs, resolve issues or concerns, and evaluate resident satisfaction;
  • Maintains the appearance and upkeep of the community by implementing regular painting and decorating plans and ensure all furniture and fixtures are operational and in good repair;
  • Conducts regular fire and emergency preparedness drills;
  • Plans and implements a regular daily, weekly, monthly and yearly schedule of preventative maintenance activities to ensure the buildings and equipment are safe and in good working order;
  • Provides minor building, electrical, plumbing and equipment repair services to ensure the optimum functioning of the physical plant and equipment;
  • Maintains operating and budgetary departmental goals;
  • Forecasting, monitoring and reporting expenditures from the budget allocated to environmental services;
  • Provides leadership and direction to environmental services team members;
  • Responsible for scheduling and appropriating staff hours within the environmental department;
  • Provides necessary in-service training and orientation of new employees with the guidance of the Executive Director;
  • Co -chair of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors;
  • Extensive experience as a maintenance worker;
  • Demonstrated skills in: light carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting and equipment maintenance;
  • Strong communication skills; both oral and written;
  • Demonstrate the ability to show initiative, innovation, the ability to work independently;
  • Team player with strong leadership, team building skills and possess well-developed customer service skills;
  • Demonstrated fiscal ingenuity and budget confidence;
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills;
  • Recognized Certification or designation in a skilled trade or equivalent is beneficial;
  • Certification from a program in general maintenance is an asset;
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License.
  • Current (within 6 months) original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screen

Housekeeper

Overview:

We are looking for a professional Housekeeper able of attending to our facilities with integrity and attention to detail.  The goal is to create a clean and orderly environment for our residents and guests that they are proud to call home.

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Perform a variety of cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing
  • Ensure all rooms are cared for and inspected according to standards
  • Protect equipment and make sure there are no inadequacies
  • Notify superiors on any damages, deficits and disturbances
  • Deal with reasonable complaints/requests with professionalism and patience
  • Check stocking levels of all consumables and replace when appropriate
  • Adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety and be aware of any company-related practices

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a cleaner or housekeeper

Night Porter

Part Time, Hourly - Nights

Overview:

The Night Porter will perform general maintenance and cleaning services for the buildings and grounds, supporting the Environmental Services department.  You will interact and support residents and ensure they have everything they need. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Provide cleaning services to ensure business offices, apartments, interior and exterior public and common areas are in a safe, neat, clean and attractive condition.
  • Provide floor care services for all floor surfaces.
  • Perform basic maintenance related work requests as assigned
  • Respond to resident pull cords or pendent calls
  • Maintain all grounds in a neat, clean and attractive condition; including sidewalks, public walkways and stairways, building exteriors and garden areas.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors
  • Proven experience as a cleaner or housekeeper
  • Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance
  • Able to work various schedules and shifts as needed, including evenings and overnight.
  • Able to safely use basic maintenance and housekeeping machines and tools
  • Communicate effectively in English with employees and residents
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of service delivery; does what is necessary to ensure resident satisfaction; able to deal with service failures and prioritize resident needs.
  • Able to communicate with others in a warm and helpful manner
  • High school diploma
  • Current (within 6 months) original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screen

Server

Full Time / Part Time - Multiple Positions

Overview:

Servers are accountable to the Dining Room Manager and Head Chef and assists with all aspects of the dining experience for the residents of Martindale Place, striving to regularly exceed the expectations of the residents and supporting the Head Chef, Culinary Staff and Fellow Serving Staff with the daily operations of the Dining Room. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Promote and Execute Hospitality Services that regularly exceeds expectations;
  • Promote a high level of customer service in all aspects of the residents dining experience;
  • Provide creative ways to make mealtimes unique and memorable;
  • Strive to surprise and delight our residents
  • Consult with chef/sous chef regularly for continued food and service improvements;
  • Accommodate residents who may have health related restrictions;
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and quality.
  • Ensure tables are ready for residents and guests to arrive
  • Be aware of special requests, inclusive of dietary restrictions, allergies and food intolerances.
  • Anticipate residents service needs by actively listening and responding positively to residents’ questions, concerns and requests in an effort to resolve issues, delight and build trust.

 Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years dining experience in the hospitality industry;
  • Strong attention to detail and quality;

Driver

Part Time
September 6, 2018

Overview:

Responsible for providing safe, courteous transportation service and serve as support staff for the Engage Life Director. Coordinates vehicle pre-maintenance, maintenance, and repair to ensure vehicle longevity.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Drive vehicle from Martindale Place to social and other various destinations according to assigned schedule.
  • Assist residents into and out of vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Secure passengers’ wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  • Practice safe driving techniques at all times.
  • Clean and service vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories and report and coordinate vehicle maintenance repairs.
  • Establish and monitor daily and weekly trip inspection and preventative maintenance programs, as well as maintain records regarding the maintenance of all vehicles.
  • Deliver groceries and other belongings to resident’s apartments.
  • Assist the Life Enrichment Coordinator in activities and programs as needed.
  • Maintain a safe driving record according to Company guidelines.
  • Handle emergency situations and basic First Aid.

 

Qualifications:

  • Genuine enjoyment and heart for serving seniors;
  • Five (5) or more years of driving experience and knowledge of vehicle preventative maintenance programs.
  • Able to operate a seven (7) to sixteen (16) passenger vehicle, tire changing equipment, First Aid Kit, wheelchair lift.
  • Experienced with vehicle emergency repairs, able to change automobile tires and handle minor on-road maintenance.
  • Proof of valid G class driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract
  • Completion of a vulnerable sector screening 1 year or less
  • Experience working with seniors
  • Good physical condition to support client’s mobility and lift up to 20 lbs
